I’ll dedicate this page to my Rotary related activities. I have been an Ambassadorial Scholar in 2005/2006. I spent his time in the Greater Boston Area while studying at Harvard University (Program on Networked Governance). My sponsor club was the Rotary Club of Erding and I was hosted by the Rotary Club of Amesbury and the Boston Rotary Club.

Here is a list of documents that might be of interest for this blog’s readership

How does your Rotary Young Professional Network relate to the Rotaract Programfrom Rotary International?

Great thinking about use of online and community based tools.

    Dear Michael,
thanks a lot for your comment.
Actually we have not come to a final conclusion/definition yet. However, the idea of the Rotary Young Professionals Network (RYPN) emerged from a discussion about the future of Rotary in general and the Rotary Club of Boston/the Ambassadorial Scholarship in particular. The consensus in this discussion was to provide graduate students or young professionals with an opportunity to get in touch with interesting individuals, organizations, or other career-building opportunities which help individuals to “build” their professional lives. In so doing, young professionals might be more incentiviced to attend weekly meetings or monthly events than in the current configuration.
Hence, in comparison to Rotaract, RYPN could have a slightly more business rather than social focus. We believed that by helping an individual to accelerate his/her career, one would also raise the awareness of “giving back” at a later point in time.
I’d be curious to hear your comments or additional suggestions.
    Best,
    Thomas

p.s. I just saw on your website that you are also working on innovative methods to get in touch with customers. I just submitted my dissertation in which I, among others, examined how information exchange influences a firm’s celebrity status (“extent to which customers direct positive emotional responses toward selected firms”). Maybe we should get in touch and share some insights and thoughts …

    Thomas,

The RYPN sounds very interesting. Have you submitted this idea to anyone at the Zone or International level?

With many of the Rotaract clubs being college age people rather then people in the work force, your idea would seem very well received, especially in large markets where it is difficult for young professionals to be introduced to a regular Rotary club.

Are you currently still working on this idea with a current Rotary sponsor?

Thank you for your ideas, I look forward to your comments….

    Dear Michael,
    sorry for the slow response!

I haven’t sent this proposal anywhere else yet and to be honest I also did have much time to elaborate a little further on it. I had some exchange with people from Boston Rotary, but that’s about it.

I’ll have my dissertation defense this week which will take up some time. Afterwards, I have planned to pick the idea up again and think about it what one could do with it.

    Best,
    Thomas
